Could I Still Be Pregnant Despite Having Abdominal Cramps Along With Negative UPT?
Hi. I have had a copper coil fitted, I ve had it for just less than a year. All my periods have been regular but I m now over 3 weeks late. I have abdominal cramping and sickness. I ve taken a pregnancy test and it s negative. Any idea what s going on!?
Hello there, thanks for writing in. Your anxiety is understandable. Copper T device is very effective in preventing pregnancy inside uterine cavity. But it is not a fool proof method and has a failure rate of about 0.8% ( 8 in 1000 women can get pregnant in one year of use). It also doesn't guard against ectopic pregnancy ( pregnancy that happens inside tubes). Though it looks unlikely to me that you could be pregnant as your urine pregnancy test is negative, I suggest you to repeat the test with morning first urine sample and read the test result after 4 to 5 minutes. If your urine pregnancy test is again negative, your periods could be dalayed due to delayed ovulation and your sickness could be unrelated to pregnancy symptoms. If your second test is negative, you can either wait for your periods for another 10 days or take tab.regesterone 5mg twice daily for 5 days. You can expect your periods in 3 to 7 days after stopping medication. Hope you found this information useful. Take care.
